It was a rough year, but flashes of hope broke through the darkness.

From day one, the Trump administration has been relentless in its attacks on our climate and democracy. They’ve gutted the agencies tasked with researching and protecting our environment, repeatedly flown in the face of the law, and continued to make policy decisions that benefit billionaires and the fossil fuel industry at everyone else’s expense.

It’s been challenging, exhausting, and demoralizing—but that doesn’t mean the year has been a complete wash.

Far from it.

Despite the Trump administration’s best efforts, clean energy still accounted for 90% of new U.S. generating capacity in the first seven months of 2025. Most projects are on track to qualify for the Inflation Reduction Act’s tax credits before they expire. And several states, like Colorado, Illinois, and Oregon, have taken steps to unleash clean energy build-out, while others, like California, are already fully meeting demand with clean energy for at least some portion of the day.

We’ve seen state coalitions form to sue the administration and fill in the gaps created by their rollbacks. We’ve seen the courts overturn one unlawful executive order after another. And we’ve seen candidates run on clean energy and energy affordability and win.

There are so many forces working against us, but we’re still making progress—and good things are still happening. Just look at the year we’ve had as an organization!

In 2025, Climate Action Now:

• Kicked off our Monthly Dose of Climate Hope event series. These live interviews have been great opportunities to learn directly from change-makers across the country and around the world. This year, we heard from Bill McKibben, Jigar Shah, and other amazing individuals—and we already have some incredible guests lined up for next year!

• Hosted 14 Action Parties. Our community repeatedly showed up to challenge some of the Trump administration’s most devastating policy decisions, from their rollback of vital tax credits to their attacks on science and federal institutions. But we also held events focused on state and local progress, plant-based food innovation, and a wide variety of other topics.

• Launched the CAN Action Carousel to supercharge the climate movement. It’s only been around for a month, but several organizations, congregations, and local environmental groups are already using our new tool to scale up their impact. We’re excited to keep the momentum going in 2026!

In short, we’ve had a great year. And there’s no way we could’ve accomplished any of this without all of you.

You’ve repeatedly attended our events, helped spread the word about the CAN Action Carousel, and through it all, continued to use our platform to advocate for change. This year alone, our CANdoers took over 800,000 actions, sent over 600,000 messages, and planted more than 100,000 trees.

That’s AMAZING!
