CELEBRATING THE GOOD

Devastating executive orders, one regulatory rollback after another, and steep budgetary cuts that jeopardize critical work…

Since the start of Trump’s second term, the onslaught of bad news has been endless.

In the last few weeks alone, we’ve seen the administration launch their biggest attack on science yet, pay another $1 billion to cancel four more offshore wind projects, and deprioritize habitat conservation in the Endangered Species Act. With each passing day, their willingness to prioritize profit over people and planet becomes increasingly clear.

Which is exactly why we can’t forget to acknowledge and celebrate the good. And there’s a lot more of it out there than you may think.

Here are just a few of the hopeful updates keeping us going:

  • Climate.us is officially live. You may remember last year, when a group of newly fired National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) employees vowed to relaunch Climate.gov under a new domain. Well, as of June 24th—exactly one year after the Trump administration shut down the website—Climate.us is officially up and running! The new website restores important datasets, graphs, climate literacy resources, and more, ensuring that farmers, researchers, policymakers, and the general public once again have access to this treasure trove of information.
  • The power sector’s energy transition is still (largely) on track. According to a new report from MIT, the U.S. power sector is still on track to see 67% of the emissions reductions and 74% of the clean energy build-out that would’ve been achieved under the Inflation Reduction Act. There’s a reason the report is titled “Glass Half Full”—even a year after its near-complete repeal, Biden’s landmark law — which CANDoers worked tirelessly to help pass into law — is keeping us on a hopeful trajectory.

It’s undeniable that the climate movement, our democracy, and the people of this country have suffered serious setbacks under the Trump administration. But victories like these—hard-fought efforts to preserve the progress we have made and get back on track—speak to the power and potential of staying resilient.

They remind us that what truly matters isn’t winning every battle, but keeping up the fight.

Join us in celebrating these critical wins!
