A PLAN FOR CLIMATE CATASTROPHE
- October 16, 2024
Project 2025 outlines what’s in store for us if Donald Trump gets a second term.
Although he disavows the plan, it was put together by his former staff and most loyal supporters. It’s what they want and largely reflects what Trump has said he wants. With no other detailed plan for Trump 2.0 in place, there’s every reason to believe that Project 2025 is exactly what he would do if reelected.
This 900-page doozy is a masterpiece of MAGA disinformation. Like Trump in his rallies, Project 2025 depicts an America in serious decline. Our leaders are characterized by “wholesale dishonesty and corruption.” (Does that sound like your elected official?) Our children “suffer the toxic normalization of transgenderism.” (Has that happened to your children?) People who care about diversity, equity, and inclusion belong to a “totalitarian cult.” People who care about the environment belong to a “pseudo-religion” in pursuit of “absolute power.” (Sorry, guys, we think they are talking about us.) The “very moral foundations of our society are in peril.” (You can say that again.)
And that’s just page 1 of the Foreword.
The point, of course, is to paint such a dark picture of America that people will agree to draconian remedies and sacrifice their freedoms.
With respect to the climate crisis, the implementation of Project 2025 would be an absolute catastrophe for the planet. It would:
Climate change? Huh? Science? What’s that all about?
Even though Project 2025 reflects many of Trump’s views, it’s no surprise that he is running away from it. Trump knows a political liability when he sees it.
A recent NBC News poll shows that Project 2025 is even more unpopular than socialism, with almost 60% of registered voters feeling negative about the plan. To the extent that they know what it is, the public isn’t having it.
That’s precisely why we need to make sure they know about it! (See our Campaign of the Week below.)
P.S. No, Mr. Trump, America is not a hellscape. Yes, we have lots of problems, but America is not the dystopia of your fevered ramblings. Immigrants are not flooding our towns, raping our wives, eating our pets, and depriving hurricane victims of supplies. These are monstrous fictions you have concocted to convince people that things are intolerable and only you can fix them.
Sadly, many good and decent Americans have been fooled by the most dangerous demagogue in our history. We pray and are working hard to ensure that enough of us will reject Trump’s politics of division and recommit to the American project of improving our imperfect union.
Perhaps the shift has begun? Many of us are tired of the doom and gloom—of living in anger and fearing for our futures. The success of Kamala Harris’s campaign of joy is a testament to that.
We can achieve a better world — one where we lead with kindness and compassion, support the people with whom we share this planet, and shape a livable future for everyone.
The first step is to do everything we can to ensure the American public knows what Trump will do if reelected. The second is to vote for climate champions up and down the ballot and encourage the people in your life to do the same. The third—more abstract but no less important—is to hold onto hope.
Let’s get busy!
