A WEEK OF GRATITUDE

It’s been a difficult year—an understatement if ever there was one.

With the Trump administration rolling back critical environmental protections, gutting U.S. clean energy development, and actively making decisions that jeopardize the health and well-being of all Americans, it’s been hard not to feel hopeless—and that’s why it’s more important than ever to focus on the progress that’s still happening.

Thankfully, there’s a lot.

Cities are forging ahead with bold climate action plans. States are implementing policies to boost clean energy development. Legal environmental groups are racking up victory after victory in court. And we’re seeing staggering clean energy growth around the world, with China paving the way for other countries—including a huge chunk of the Global South—to get on board.

But when it comes to the U.S., we can’t acknowledge this progress without acknowledging one of the driving forces behind it—the countless climate and environmental organizations that mobilize individuals across the country and empower them to act.

There are the groups that our readers know about—major national and international organizations like The Climate Reality ProjectThird Act, and Citizens’ Climate Lobby. These groups have anywhere from dozens to hundreds of chapters, and help to train new climate advocates, build political will across the country, and give people the tools they need to become forces for change in their own communities.

But the big organizations are far from the only ones.

There are regional environmental groups focused on local issues, like Act Now Bay Area. Climate-focused faith groups, like the climate team at Greenfield Presbyterian Church. And educational organizations like Project Drawdown and Climate Trace (Al Gore’s startup) provide helpful tools and resources to advance science-based climate action.

And of course, there’s all of you—our amazing CANdoers!

It’s easy to forget that the messages we send have a real impact, but we’ve heard time and time again that our advocacy makes a real difference. Our messages helped get New York’s historic climate law over the finish line years ago, and more recently, helped kickstart the small but mighty plug-in solar revolution sweeping the nation.

It’s clear that the Trump administration can and will continue to wage its war on climate (and war on democracy, and war on science, war on vaccines, etc.).  But as a movement, our greatest strengths are our resilience, our desire to protect the planet, and our commitment to building a livable future for everyone. And that means there’s absolutely no universe in which we give up.

Join us as we thank a handful of the organizations fighting alongside us and continuing to advocate for change!
