Today marks the first-ever Sun Day—a national day of action celebrating solar and clean energy!

All day long on Sunday, people across the country gathered at powerful and inspiring events to raise the decibel level on the need for a just transition. It’s been a recognition of what the climate movement has already achieved, a celebration of how incredible renewable energy is, and an opportunity to come together and advocate for continued progress.

As the sun sets on this hopeful day of action, here are a few of the positives we’re thinking about:

• Clean energy is already winning. According to recent International Energy Agency forecasts, renewable energy is expected to become the world’s leading electricity source by 2026, and global clean energy investment is projected to surpass that of fossil fuel investment this year. China, India, and a number of other countries are installing solar at record-breaking rates, and the rapidly declining price of solar panels is supporting fast-paced growth in the Global South. Even in the U.S., with our federal government doing everything it can to reverse progress, solar and batteries are still leading the pack when it comes to new generating capacity and successful interconnection agreements.

• States aren’t backing down. In the face of federal hostility, several states are working harder than ever to maintain their climate progress. Colorado and Maine are accelerating the build-out of clean energy and increasing procurement before the federal clean energy tax credits expire. Utah passed the nation’s first bill deregulating plug-in solar—a move that has already inspired a Maryland legislator to introduce similar legislation. And other states are exploring other ways to keep moving forward, from Massachusetts bolstering its solar incentive program to California developing recommendations for advancing the EV transition at the state level.

Organizations, companies, and individuals—including us!—held all kinds of events today, from marches and e-bike parades to all-electric house tours. It reminds us that action can be joyful, hopeful, and positive—and holding onto those feelings is essential to keeping up the fight.

So in the spirit of Sun Day, let’s keep doing what we do best: advocating for the bright future we all deserve!
