STAND FIRM FOR CLEAN ENERGY!

We’ve been saying it for weeks now, but there’s nothing more important than stopping the worst that the Big, Ugly Budget Bill has to offer.

That’s why we’re shifting our focus back to the only people who can get us a better deal: the Republican senators who advocate for the clean energy tax credits.

Here are the four individuals who could make the difference—and what they stand to lose if they don’t hold their ground:

  • Senator Lisa Murkowski of Alaska. Despite voting against the Inflation Reduction Act, Murkowski supports clean energy development in her state, which produced 30% of its total energy from renewables in 2024. The recent threats posed by the Trump Administration have already driven the cancellation of several projects in Alaska and now jeopardize another $50 million in private investment.
  • Senator John Curtis of Utah. Curtis is a vocal proponent of the tax credits and has even referred to some IRA provisions as “Republican priorities.” A full repeal wouldn’t just cost Utah billions of dollars in investment and thousands of jobs, but threaten 4.7 gigawatts-worth of planned capacity growth—and the deployment of sufficient energy to meet the demands of the state’s 43 data centers.
  • Senator Thom Tillis of North Carolina. Since the Inflation Reduction Act passed, 34 clean energy projects have been announced in North Carolina, creating over 17,000 new jobs and $20 billion in private investment. The Trump Administration’s actions have already delayed one project, putting $275 million in private investment on the line.
  • Senator Jerry Moran of Kansas has really come around on the IRA since its passage, which is no surprise when you consider that Kansas gets almost 50% of its energy from wind. The state’s IRA-supported clean energy projects are expected to create more than 20,000 jobs, but a full repeal would jeopardize this growth and tens of millions of dollars in private investment.

We’re not the only ones pinning our hopes on these four alone.

Despite voting for the budget bill, several House Republicans have been in talks with these senators, urging them to protect these important incentives. Thirteen of them have even written to Senate leadership, asking them to make changes around transferability and the rapid phaseout timeline for the clean energy production and investment tax credits.

If there’s any chance they can help sway these four senators to action, we will urge them to keep the pressure on.

There’s too much at stake to stop now. Join us as we keep up the fight!
