Trees for Travel!
Cutting back on air travel is an important step we can take to reduce our climate impact. But if you have to fly, why not spend a few extra bucks to reverse your emissions?
That’s where our Trees for Travel program comes in. These indigenous species are planted by our nonprofit partner, Earthlungs Reforestation Foundation, under contract with the Kenyan Forest Service to help restore 5.1 million hectares of degraded land — part of Kenya’s Paris Agreement Nationally Determined Contribution (PDF).
Your trees are never harvested or traded. They’re planted and protected by local farmers, live out their natural lives, and create lasting forests that clean the air, store carbon, and shelter wildlife. Learn more about our program.

How does it work?
- Answer the four questions. Travel class, roundtrip miles, passengers, and whether you want to plant extra trees as insurance against fire, flood, and drought.
- Place your order. Complete and submit the order form above. If it’s a gift, we’ll email your recipient. See sample.
- We purchase the trees. At the beginning of each calendar quarter, we purchase the promised number of trees from Earthlungs.
- The trees are planted. Earthlungs pays subsistence farmers in Kenya to restore the forests with indigenous species. Read our interview with Victor Mwanga, leader of Earthlungs.
- We publish confirmation. A public record shows that we made the promised purchases.

How the number of trees is calculated
Emissions per passenger-mile differ by cabin class, so business and first class need more trees for the same route. The calculation assumes roughly 200 kg of CO₂ drawn down per tree over its life; our full working is public.
