In Memory Of

If a loved one is no longer with us, consider planting trees in their memory — a living, growing memorial rather than one that fades.

The trees you buy are planted by our nonprofit partner, Earthlungs Reforestation Foundation. They are not harvested or traded in the carbon offset market. They are planted under contract with the Kenyan Forest Service to help reforest 5.1 million hectares of degraded land, part of Kenya’s Nationally Determined Contribution under the Paris Agreement.

These trees are protected by subsistence farmers who plant and care for them. They will live out their natural lives, drawing carbon from the atmosphere and creating habitat for countless species. Learn more about our program.

How does it work?

  1. Place your order. Complete and submit the order form above, including the name of the person you’re remembering.
  2. We notify whoever you choose. If you’d like, we’ll send a notification to the person you designate above. See sample.
  3. We purchase the trees. We’ll purchase the promised number of trees from Earthlungs.
  4. The trees are planted. Earthlungs pays subsistence farmers to restore Kenya’s national forests with native species. Read our interview with Victor Mwanga, leader of Earthlungs.
  5. We publish confirmation. A public record shows that we made the promised purchases.

The carbon figure uses Climate Action Now’s own working estimate of roughly 200 kg of CO₂ drawn down per tree over its life — the same figure behind our Trees for Travel calculator. Lifetime sequestration varies with species, site, and survival rate.
