SCALE IT UP!

The climate movement is making progress—but with 2-3 degrees of warming on the horizon, it’s clear we need to move much faster.

That’s where the CAN Action Carousel comes in.

This new tool is a web-based version of the CAN app, offering users an endless stream of well-written, well-researched actions to take. And, best of all:

  • It can be installed on any website in minutes.
  • If a group (e.g., a Facebook group) doesn’t have a website, we can host it on the Climate Action Now website. That’s what we did for Third Act Oregon.
  • It’s FREE to any group that wants to scale up its activism.

Do you want a CAN Action Carousel for your group? Get the Carousel here.

You may have heard about the Carousel, but chances are you don’t know the story behind it.

Last April, word went out that the Trump administration was planning several executive orders on Earth Day, one of which would have declared environmental groups terrorist organizations so that he could take away their tax-exempt status, an existential threat to the entire environmental movement.

People took the rumored executive orders very seriously because, sadly, this was precisely the kind of action we’ve come to expect from the Trump administration.

That weekend, thousands of climate and environmental leaders gathered in Zoom meetings and Signal threads to prepare a response. CAN was tasked with creating a carousel of actions to protest the executive orders, which would be hosted on a website—not the app—to increase their reach. We worked around the clock to pull it together, but there wasn’t nearly enough time.

Thankfully, Earth Day came and — crickets. Possibly, the optics of declaring environmental nonprofits terrorist organizations on Earth Day was too much, even for the Trump administration.

The emergency groups disbanded, but we at CAN realized the action carousel was a much better way to mobilize the millions of citizens who are alarmed about climate change no app required. So we made creating the CAN Action Carousel our top priority.

If you saw our Giving Tuesday email, you already know that almost 100 million Americans are alarmed about climate change and support climate action. Nearly half of that number are willing to act but do absolutely nothing because no one has made it easy for them—until now.

So what will happen if thousands of grassroots organizations start hosting carousels on their websites? That’s why we’re so excited about this new technology.

We’ve barely started with the CAN Action Carousel. Help us get the word out and give the climate movement the tool it needs to scale up activism for a just and sustainable planet!
